    Default M&B

I have not seen it all, but have been studying and recording dial patents for almost 40 years. deja vu!

If the dial is original to this safe, it would indicate an original Yale lock.

I made a ID mistake I was looking at the hinges and just over looked the fact that there are no ball bearing races on the hinges. That changes the maker to Baum with there version of the OB Yale lock.
Yale OB,OBB,OBS locks has there drops at 48.5.
HHM version of the lock HE has a Drop of 53
Baum version of the lock has a drop of 50-51.

Default Mosler Bahmann & Co. (M&B)

It's been my experience, and as a general rule, this type of offset hinge with bearings would be indicative of HHM. The more years I spend researching cast iron safe identification, it seems the less I really know.

I wonder if this is a private labeled safe? It surely doesn't look anything like the typical M&B with these hinges, BCH, and dial. The word "Continental" across the top of the door refers to the style of safe. Continental's usually had a surface mounted bolt work mechanism that worked in conjunction with a Yale 024 comb lock with a slotted bolt.

Typical M&B safes externally looked different and utilized the Yale 062-1/2 and S&G 6800 series locks. The ones with the 062-1/2 had a free spinning BCH when locked.
