Lightbulb Pilot Patent lock on a small safe

Hi, I bought this at auction but it was at the bottom of a box and I never saw it till I got home. The front is marked pilot patent as you can see. The front brass part rotates and clicks as it moves, to compare it’s similar to opening a childproof medicine bottle without pressing down. The keyhole is revealed once turned. The base has an odd hole with a springed rod coming out of it. There is stuff inside this box too so I’m here to find out firstly what the lock is and then whether it’s worth breaking into or selling as it is. Thanks for any help
