14th Century safe
I am located in Italy and have recently found numerous safes in a reclamation yard that are from ancient palaces from around the 14th/15th century. Although i have never been interested in safes in the past these have really caught my eye. The larger ones are wooden structures with reinforced iron cladding and have incredible intricate locks with the keys featuring very interesting shapes, the smaller ones appear to be solid metal. The sizes of them range from a large shoe box to 6 feet tall double doored cupboards. Does anyone know where i could gather more infomation on such pieces and if they are indeed as rare as i expect they are. Any help/thoughts/information would be much appreciated. Thanks Joe.
