Default Newly registered and needing some help ...

Hi there all! My husband and I have been collecting keys for a short time and have recently purchased this one amongst a large bunch. Fake or fantasy?? It looks similar to the body of a Day and Newell changeable key - but without the detachable key steps. These have been replaced by a makeshift solid wood component - although we have not yet been able to work out if the screw section is a wooden plug or some type of metal. The key body is brass. If anyone can shed some light or if they know where some detachable key steps can be found - please let us know, we'd really appreciate it. Many thanks Sarah and Clinton

That key looks just fine to me, I would guess that the wooden piece was used as a packer of some kind to prevent damage .. I will bring this thread to the attention of a advanced collector of Day & Newell locks.
