One more thing to add as it not alway the lock problem as sometime alway the door or mount frame could be out of line. I have see this many time as everytime they said something wrong with the lock but really was the door because the door latch was dragging on the strike could mean the mouth frame or the door cause this problem...Timothy...

    Default Trimco 5022

First; Thanks for all the contributions to this thread.
Does anyone have any experience with the TRIMCO 5022 Unit Lock to Cylindrical Adapter?

This looks like it might be a cheaper alternative than the Corbin_Russwin new Unit locks (which don't come in a dark finish anyway). Was thinking of converting to the EMTEK 4812 Arts and Crafts Tubular Handset.

Any and all thoughts would be appreciated.

You will find that the Trimco 5022 unit lock adapter is pricey, I believe they list for well over $200.00 each and do not include the strike which must also be dealt with. With that said, it is a satisfactory method of updating unit locks. Falcon offers an RU Series unit lock retrofit lockset for such applications as well, however they list for several hundred dollars:

The Emtek is a good lock for conversion. But you will need a Don Jo or the Tice plate for the conversion. The Don Jo is cheaper and works just as well overall. Any locksmith should be able to help you find what you need. I know we stock a good deal of these plates.

If I were installing the Emtek 4812, I would plug the unit lock cutout with a matching hardwood block or "dutchman". This should be glued in place, secured with hardwood dowels or biscuits and sanded smooth. I believe this will yield a much better appearance than the use of wrap-around plates. The lock requires two 2-1/8" crossbore holes on 5-1/2" centers together with two 1" edge bores, these are best done using a pro boring jig for accuracy. Specify backset of 2-3/8" or 2-3/4" when ordering. Avoid the available interconnect device which can be problematic. Some locksmiths can source Emtek product and provide competent installation service and/or advise. My two cents.

I agree that the plugging of the hole would be nicer. But I know of few that can pull that off anymore. Wood working skills are dropping off I am sorry to say. Finding a good finish carpenter is hard anymore... I have one on my phone list as he is magic.
