Awesome! Published in only two days, but you must have put a lot of days work into it.

Here are two vault doors stacked on top of each other at the Bureau of Printing & Engraving. I suspect the top vault door is an emergency door used for ventilation, but I've never seen them stacked like this.

This is an extra-large Plenum Ventilation system as used when staff are actually working within the room during the day such as Bank of England Regional Cash Centres.

For normal sized rooms the system is housed in the vestibule and retracted (sometimes automatically) as the door is closed. If the Day Gate is used it suitably shortened to accommodate the system.
In addition the height of the vestibule is sometimes increased to allow access for bullion pallet trucks in main cash centres..

I have just come across an appropriate photograph of a Tann Heavy Door which shows the ventilation cowl ready to be swung under the vestibule.Click image for larger version.

Terrific article, thank you for taking the time to compose it.

I took the liberty of making one small alteration, changing a single word for the sake of clarity.

The original stated that the combination dials were located inside the vault on jamb controlled vaults. I changed it to say the combination locks are located inside the vault.
