    Default Postbox key

I know in 1856 Richard Redgrave of the Department of Science and Art designed an ornate pillar box for use in London and other large cities. I think a dozen or so were made and then this started off a redesign and more were then put in circulation. But it’s always mentioned that Chubb produces the locks for these I have a couple of Chubb marked and some what dated via 128 queen victoria street address - but nothing earlier?

However I have one as pictured and would like to know how this variation from Aubin Maker came about.

Also does anyone know what the key or lock was like in one of these early ornate ones in 1856 or the later ones in 1859?

...or any other info on postboxes?

    thanks Simon
