    In time when this key was made - corkscrew was corkscrew and thermometer most possibly wasn't invented yet.

    Most possibly this key was made in XVI-XVII sentury.
    Corkscrew in key is a nowaday thing.

    Jast my opinion. Maybe I am wrong.
