    Default S Withers Safe Badge

Attached is a picture of a circular S. Withers Safe Badge. It is unlike any I have seen especially as the lion on top of the crown is facing to the left as viewed. All the ones I have seen have the lion facing right.
Can anyone give a date to this badge?

If this plate is attached to a safe then a photograph of the safe would be a help in dating it.
    The plate is not unusual.

    Anita, thanks for the information.

The Withers family started making safes with the founder George in 1843. The date that your safe was made would have been around the 1880's.

They made a great number of safes for export. Not top of the range but reasonably priced fire resisting lockfast containers.

They lasted until 1968 when they became part of the Stratford-Tann Group - now extinct.

    Dear Safeman

Many thanks for that information. The other members of the Recording group will be very pleased.
