Exclamation Important notes regarding requests for help/info on locked safes

Following the increased number of new members joining to post requests for help and information on locked safes, please take a moment to read these simple rules and guidelines.

Whatever your safe or the nature of your enquiry, it is always worthwhile to try the search function at the top right of each page. Most safes have been encountered by forum members before, and thus the most common and relevant questions already asked and answered for you.
Use specific relevant search words and then click on the magnifier icon to reveal all relevant posts where those subjects have been discussed in the past. Using a single or vague word in the search box like just 'chubb' for example, will reveal all subject matter under Chubb including padlocks, locks and keys etc. Being more specific will filter the search to more specific and relevant results. You will usually find all the answers you are looking for plus a lot of extra information here as well!

The forum is primarily intended for the historical discussion of antique and vintage safes, strongrooms, vaults and their associated hardwares, development and histories.

Members can usually assist with requests for identifying/dating the above but please remember that all members here choose to answer any such questions and/or provide information entirely at their own free will and without obligation.

Where discussions progress and evolve it sometimes means that the technical content eventually outweighs any antique or historical value, in which case such material may be moved to more relevant forums accordingly.
The forum is not intended an open resource for technical advice or information, and it is not for the open discussion or exchange of opening techniques, by-pass methods or any such sensitive information.

Examples where members cannot provide sensitive information are requests regarding safes that are locked shut without the keys and/or combinations that are obviously needed to unlock them.
Members will not respond to requests or questions on openings, lock picking, manipulation, by-pass methods, drilling points or entry techniques whether you are locked out or not, regardless of circumstances.

THE FORUM DOES NOT OFFER A WORLDWIDE SERVICE TO OPENLY TEACH UNKNOWN STRANGERS HOW TO OPEN SAFES VIA ANY PUBLIC FORUMS OF THIS SITE, SO THEREFORE PLEASE DO NOT ASK.

If your safe is locked shut and without keys/combination you will need the services of a professional safe engineer/technician or competent locksmith, in which case members might suggest a referral or recommendation if possible, depending on your circumstances and location.

Thank you for your co-operation, and please do enjoy the wealth of information and knowledge here on the antique-locks site.
