    Anyone any ideas what this lock would have been used for?

    Perhaps a key hole blocker, as an alternative to a locking escutcheon?

    It doesn't have much to fix it in place. I am guessing that the shape of it is not just decorative. I think it was made for a specialist purpose - something like locking bus ticket machines into a recess...what that purpose is though is beyond me.
