Does the handle free spin (isolate) until the combination lock is unlocked?

No when it's locked the t-handle is solid. When unlocked it moves 1/4 turn pushing lock rods in/out

    Default Baum

The safe in the picture was made by Baum with there version of the Yale OB lock. The is a screw change driver that changes the combo. There is NO hard plate or Re-lockers in this style safe. Tim

    Default M&B

I have not seen it all, but have been studying and recording dial patents for almost 40 years. deja vu!

If the dial is original to this safe, it would indicate an original Yale lock.

Based solely on the Cincinnati directory listings, Mosler Bahmann was out of business by 1898 and J. Baum didn't start until 1902, so that would rule out Baum as the maker. M-B was a big maker and in business for around 30 years, I wouldn't be surprised to find other oddball models made by them.

I should amend the last post with another company Warth& Baum 1895-1901, predesessor to J.Baum. So there is some overlapping here with Mosler Bahmann by a couple years. Of course that doesn't prove anything (other than I need to pay closer attention), just leaves open the possibility.
