Here's a vault door that is interesting (to me) because it has a long history which predates the current building. As far as I can piece together:

In New York City around 1908 there was the West Side Bank and the West Side Safe Deposit Vaults at 485 8th Avenue. In this era some banks got into the safe deposit business which had been mostly populated with private companies. Banks would create a separate but wholly-owned company and I assume this was for liability and/or tax reasons. The first image above is from the Museum of the City of New York and dated 1908 (http://collections.mcny.org/Collecti...XC58PLQGK.html) which also IDs the door as Herring-Hall-Marvin. The second image is a postcard mailed in 1911.

In 1918 the Manufacturer's Trust acquired West Side Bank and thus gained a west side presence.

Around 1928, when the New Yorker Hotel was proposed, Manufacturer's Trust insisted that they get the new building's basement and second floor rent-free for 50 years as a requirement, and the builders agreed. The evidence suggests that when the old building was torn down, this vault was preserved and was then used when Manufacturer's moved back in. The address became 481 8th Avenue.

After many ownership changes, the New Yorker was purchased in 1975 by the Unification Church for use by its members. In 1994 they started converting it back to a hotel and it has been extensively renovated. It recently joined the Wyndham Hotels chain.

Above: Getting back to the vault, a 2014 article at http://travelupdate.boardingarea.com...ams-bank-heist shows work in progress. The door is rusty; the locks and time lock are gone and the central glass is missing along with one of the bolts. The safe deposit box nests will be removed to gain space but the box doors will be kept for wall decoration. The space is to become a bar and grille called "Bar Below" which has not yet opened (as of February 2, 2017).

Above: an image of the vault in Bar Below which looks ready for customers.

If there are any forum members in NYC, this could be a good one to go visit (among others), once it opens of course.
