Default would appreciate help in identifying this lock

Hi I have had this lock for a number of years, purchased in bulgaria and apparently was originally used in a monastery, the lock is very large measuring 17" in height and 10.5" wide. Partly made from iron it is as heavy as it looks and comes with original key, when opening the lock also chimes. I have searched to no avail and unable to find any information on a lock of this size, it is just been in the attic up until now. thank you

Unfortunately Nicola, Bulgaria is one of the primary producers of such items aimed at the tourist industry as 'old curiosities' along with repro and fake cast brass, bronzes and coins.
The circumstances under which you bought it- where, from whom and why, will probably Have the answer.
Sorry, but I'd be amazed if an established, Bulgarian speaking reputable antiques dealer had sold it as a genuine Monastic item!
