Default Gothic Chest- a fake? Interesting Circle spring lock

Hello everyone, was wondering if any of you might shed any light on this object, which becomes more and more mysterious the more we examine it. We're trying to get an idea of the approximate age of this object...we suspect it's a pastische, but would at least like to start with the hardware...

It's a large carved pine/softwood (very odd choice of materials) chest with a rather fancy (on the inside) steel lock. Have any of you seen anything quite like this? Any thoughts as to age range or country of origin? Thank you very much for your insight!

lock is an ordinary chest lock from germany or austria,
it seems orginal, used 1600-1800, fine piece.
because of chest decoration i suggest northern germany.

Lock looks to be made of rolled sheet, which suggests a date later rather than earlier in the range given above.
