Default E cotterill's patent royal climax detector

Can anyone advise me on it's rarity, use, and value?
Height (in locked position) approx 5.1/8in (13cm). Very heavy- it weighs over 1 kilogram.

I would say these are scarce (not exactly rare as I've seen a fair number of them change hands over the years). They are popular with collectors and have commanded strong (and insane !) prices in the past. I've seen them sell from $500 to over $2000 depending on condition, markings and numbers of keys. Given the world market at present I would not like to predict the current price though.
