Pete, in case you don't understand what Nick is using as a torch, propane or Mapp gas can easily be used on parts as small as a key. It is when you get into larger parts like mortise lock bolts and such where you start wishing you had oxy-acetylene, but some of these things can still done, just takes longer. A properly soldered joint can be as strong as the parent metal and this includes mild steel. Doug
