I have a number of novelty moneyboxes, mostly with a plug rather than a lock, so probably not of much interest here.
I have several toy 'safe' style moneyboxes, I'll try to organise some pics. Presumably I don't need to show pics of the Playmobil safe here ... .
Meanwhile, have a careful look at this cartoon I picked up along the way.

Not quite sure what sort of home safe this is intended for, it was sold separately, but looks like a book rather than a 3lever bottom door lock.

These are currently on sale everywhere in many colours. Seem to be a development of a square shaped safe which had only a comlock, and is still on sale. Today these seem to be from China.

No need for great excitement ... .
This is made of steel sheet just over 1mm thick, spot welded and painted. The lock is a basic 5-wafer cam lock with convenience key. (What we often called a disk tumbler lock in the past, before we met Abloy locks.) It even has a keycode stamped on the face. The pivoted back edge of the door is inside the door opening when closed, acting as a continuous dogbolt. The style resembles early-20c French safes in having a base and cap.

Many of the other toy moneyboxes are tinplate, crimped or fixed together with folded tabs. Locks are often springlatches using a standard key or a back-action lock, often with no wards.

I got to know an old collector and was able to purchase some old and rusted money boxes. Most are missing the lock because they were pried open :( It's a shame to ruin these beautiful boxes just to get the few coins they usually contain. I picked open with two L bent wires the only one that was locked with something inside. I got a few old coins, estimated value less than one euro.


I need to clean these money boxes and then I'll let my girlfriend choose which ones she wants to keep. The others, most likely doubles or most rusted, will be available for trade.





The old collector also had some padlocks he no longer needed, and I'm the one that will choose which ones to keep :lol:
