    Default Fake Cotterill padlock?

I came across this on ebay : http://m.ebay.com.au/itm/Antique-19t...297?nav=SEARCH

It doesn't look quite like any example I've seen before. For example, the lettering on it is much more limited, and is in the wrong place (the Cotterill logo usually appears in the centre, where this lock has "Climax Detector"), yet the lettering on it is in the right font.

There are other subtle differences which make me think it's either a fake or a very early example of the lock, unlike any I've seen pictured before(seems unlikely).

Given it's in India, I'm thinking it's most likely a fake.

If this is a fake, there has been a great deal of time invested in it & with a little more effort, it could've been indistinguishable from the real thing - in which case I suspect there will be fakes in future that will fool some experienced collectors.

Here are some real examples of the lock for comparison purposes : http://restraintsblog.blogspot.com.a.../Cotterill?m=0

When a different model of Cotterill padlock sold on eBay last year for £5500, I wondered if that might inspire fakery.

I'd be very interested to hear other member's opinions on this one!

    Default

    Genuine, late example.

Value - Nothing, it's been taken apart and gutted.
