Hey Timothy, judging by the design this padlock looks a lot like the Yale 840 Padlock. Mentioned in the Padlock Handbook on page 110. The keyway however looks like a restricted one.

I am sure that one of our locksmiths or a keyway specialists here on the forum will be able to help you out

Adrian is correct, apparently a restricted keyway; doesn't appear to match any of the G, S or T multiplex keyways shown on the attached thumbnail not the V, Y or Z series which are the reverse of the G, S & T respectively.

Default Question About this Yale Lock....

Got this from another forum as asking question about getting key blank for it as I'm not member of it. I think may be from Australia. As being for restricted keyway was looking into Yale Blank couldn't find anything close to it. Was thinking maybe not Yale keyway as may be from another differ keyway blank....Timothy.....

The keyway doesn't match anything I have on file, including Yale Banklock division. If you were willing to pay, Yale would make you anything you wanted including special cast cases and custom keyways. This was probably in that area. Looks like a V or Z master blank could be made to fit.

Default Question About this Yale Lock....

OK! As looking into Silca "108" Catalogue page 70 BKS blank key for Yale. Almost look just like the Yale Padlock keyway. I try to post the PDF but it wouldn't work maybe can go here (http:/www.silca.biz/en/News/123270/catalogues.html) . Also try to copy and paste the page which wouldn't allow.

The registration groove matches the G series style so I doubt the reverse VYZ could fit. What many may not be aware of is that Yale can and does, at least when I was in charge at the factory, broach plugs that will accept certain Multi-section keys only. There are also two other multiplex families that are compatible with the G family that are known as the L and P families.

From looking at the keyway it appears that it may have been broached to accept only the GV key or its equivalent in the L family, LV. It is hard to tell the difference between G and L and P family keyways as the register grooves are only different by .015" on one side.

Default Question About this Yale Lock....

Thank BBE! Good information and I don't think this padlock was from USA. This is why I was looking at Silca BKS key blank as almost close to what I was looking at. I could be wrong as both you and Pete give good information. I finally got this post of keyway a little better to look at. Keep up the good work and Thank....Timothy....
