    Default Padlock help?

Hy guys, I'm new to the lock collecting game and I came across a padlock that I can't seem to figure out what it is. If anyone could help me identify it so I could possibly figure out how to open it up and use it, that would be great. It says "improved tumbler lock" and has a makers mark of an eight pointed star.

Looks a bit like this stile. These are a pair made by Walsal locks & Cart gear and used by the 'Forestry Commission' here in the UK and dates from around 1920.

Its a traditional design made by many makers at the time.

Thank you, I honestly didn't expect this lock to be that old. Now for a probably impossible question, how do I go about opening it without the original key? Is there a style out there that would work almost as a universal key?
