Default Padlocks age? could this be 16th century?

i was given this padlock .. its made of Iron , though the iron isnt pure it has flakes of copper or bronze in it, hand made,
8x5x1cm with key, i think it could be 16th century going by the design, so hoping anyone could help with this?

You are very fortunate to have been given this great lock and key! I have a similar one - but without a key.
Although some have dated this style of padlock as 16th - 17th century, I believe a 17th - 18th century date is more accurate. Martina Pall's The European Padlock shows a page from an 18th century book (1750) showing the same type of padlock.

That's a beautiful padlock, has a very elegant shape to it. Love the way the case tapers down to a cruciform shape at the bottom apex. Beautiful- what a gift and with a key as well
