Don't see any evidence of tang-bar or similar - would it have slowed them down?

I would have been happy with the SLS safe regardless of contents !

Hang on though getting it back through the hole they made could have been tricky at best ......

An image of the untouched door with the core-drilled wall next to it:

Per discussion in another thread, the pressure bar system looks like it uses a worm gear for reduction (the hand wheel shaft is offset from the pressure bars).

There was a little discussion and another picture in this thread -- http://www.antique-locks.com/showthr...rilled-a-vault

It looks like a core-drilled hole is clean enough it's hard to see where the reinforcing bars were, unless you get up close and look for something shiny. I'm sure they are there but I don't know how much it slows down a diamond core drill. In that other thread it sounded like it did slow things a bit because the steel would clog the drill.

It doesn't look like the wall is anywhere close to 6 feet thick and after seeing that lightweight door, I am reasonably sure it isn't.

So they were still using the original door from the 1940s, I can't believe that. Not that it was put to the test though..

As I think we all thought the original police statement about the criminals drilling through 2 metres of concrete was nonsense.

I thought I'd drop in a couple of images of the door.

Lightweight or not, in a way it did its job -- the crooks attacked the wall instead.

    Yes it seems that way.

While the door certainly wasn't one of Chubb's biggest offerings, it's perhaps a bit harsh to call it a lightweight.

But then I guess it's down to what you're used to, if you drive around in a 1970s Caddy Fleetwood Eldorado, I suppose a Dodge Charger seems small. And for Doug, he's used to the 5 foot thick door of the Cleveland Fed

Authorities are now saying the hole is 50cm deep (http://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2...jewellery-raid), almost 20 inches, rather than earlier claims that the walls are 2m thick.
