Default old? eagle co. combination lock

Recently came across an eagle co. combination lock. Seems to spin OK, fairly certain someone scratched the combo on the backside, but I'll be damned if I can get it to open. Really like to use it on a desk I'm building. There is a marking on the back "G-768". Can't seem to find any information on it. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Images of some ancient Eagle combination padlocks can be sound on this website:

Does yours look like any of those? The G-768 may represent the code, I'm told that all the old Eagle codes were destroyed when the company went out of business in June, 1975. Not found in the old Reed Padlock Codes Book.
