Default Key found, need some clues as to how old.

Found this key off Atlantic Blvd in Virginia Beach, Virginia USA about 300 yds from the Atlantic Ocean. Found 8" deep. Has a different face on each side and appears to be brass plated.

    Default Beach find

Hi Bennett, I don't think it's very old because it seems to be in pretty good condition for something that's been hanging around in saltwater underground. It looks a bit like a furniture or fantasy type key. But that's my opinion and I'm a collector not a locksmith. Someone with more experience may be able to tell you more but don't dispose it until you have heard from someone with more experience than myself.

Warren thanks for the help, yes I did find out it was an ornamental brass cabinet key that was never cut.. From early to mid 1900s worth little to nothing... Crazy that you found that.. Curious did it come up on a google search or do you frequent both forums ? Lol kinda blew my mind when I saw you posted that link.

It was the result of some sneaky web searching ..
