    Default "Standards" and their origins

When were the "standard" formats of cylinder lock first made and who by? I am thinking of the rimlatch cylinder that fits in a 32mm hole, the euro and oval profiles common in the UK and the camlock bodies used for lockers, vending machines etc.

The UK rim cylinder seems to have different standards to the european ones -fixing bolts are in a different position and slightly different diameter body I believe..but you are right that they are very close to a standard...was it Yale?
