Default Help identifying an old padlock

    Hello all,

I found this lock half-buried along the side of the road near Mackinack City, MI about 20 years ago when I was a kid. I know nothing about locks, and was wondering if anyone could shed some light on this mystery lock. Even under magnification, I can find no identification marks. Any information would be greatly appreciated!

    thanks,

    -Chris

Typically called a "Smokie", or smoke house style of lock. Many of the lock companies made this style of padlock here in the states (and overseas as well) at the turn of the last century. With no markings and the condition it's in..., we may never know who made it. However some one might recognize the lock from the brass escutcheon shape and the round piece of brass on the backside.

Thank you for the response! So it is most likely from the early 1900's?
