    Default Combination Lock: J. B. M. K. L. CO. KENT. O.

I recently acquired a J. B. Miller Keyless Lock Co. combination lock as described in the 8th row of list here. My lock is in much nicer condition than the one pictured in the link:

    http://www.antique-padlocks.com/comb_1dial_g-z.htm

    Accord to the link:

    "J. B. M. K. L. CO. KENT. O.".
Steel case. Steel shackle. Steel dial.
Face of lock has no numbers.
    Code:
    To open the lock:

    1. Set dial at the 12 o'clock position,
    2. Then turn the dial 7 clicks to the right,
    3. Then 5 clicks to the left,
    4. Then 3 clicks to the right,
    5. Then 4 clicks to the left.
Mfg by: J. B. Miller Keyless Lock Co.

I've tried this several times but it does not work. The lock appears to b4e in otherwise excellent condition - i.e. I don't believe the insides are gunked up. Thoughts?

    Hey timo,

if I am not wrong the rules should also apply here. I am going to quote oldlock now though:

Thanks to the goodwill of site supporter ' oldbiscuit ' users have in the past been able to receive codes for Gougler Keyless padlocks.

It is becoming a concern that numbers of requests are now being made for such codes and it is still possible that these padlocks may be in use, while I am not suggesting that any of the previous requests have been improper to ensure that all requests in the future are legitimate the following must be included in any code request post.

1 - At least two clear photo's of the lock in question, 1 front, 1 back uploaded to this server and included in the post.

2 - The photo's must be taken against a sheet of paper, on the paper must be written the full name of the owner of the lock and this website name, ie :

    Mr John Smith, www.antique-locks.com

All of the above must be clear and legible.

Any queries regarding this policy please post here.

    Thanks
If these rules do not apply here I am sorry and do apologise.

    Adrian

Timo, That combination that was listed with the shown padlock was for that lock only, The odds that that same combination would work with yours are probably 1000"s to 1. They only gave the combo so that others would know the sequence if they had their own combos, but didn't know how it worked. Do you have any 3 or 4 digit numbers stamped on the shackle or body on your lock? If so, we possibly could find the combo. As with the Gougler, pictures would help. Mark

Timo, I just looked through my books and I can't find your number listed for the combo. Maybe someone else will find the combo in a later edition. Good luck, Mark

Thank you very much for trying - I do appreciate this effort and all the other help I have received from the long-time participants here. I hope someone will have info on this serial # (024510) - the lock appears to be in excellent shape. Would anyone here have an approx. date of manufacture for this lock -- does the serial # indicate a date?

The fact it says JBMKL suggests it was made before 1944/1945 when Gougler took over the company and renamed it. Some similar design patents date to 1945. So, without much to go on, I'd guess the early 1940s.

Thanks, John (Should this have been a new thread?)
