Default American Lock - Back to school kit

Back in the days when American Lock was still producing in the U.S.A.

Really cool kit if you ask me! Including a Faber rubber

Well, we are still 'back in the day' as they are still produced in the USA. They are made in Milwaukee instead of Crete. Only assembly is done outside the US.

    Hey BBE,

Thank for the contribution and the information. I am pretty sure though, that the core of the lock is made in China and not in the U.S.A.

Please do correct me if I am wrong but the core is made very poorly.

then I heard that about a hundred employees returned, TO DO WHAT ?
This did look good in the news though, made me think Master was returning..

Depends upon the vintage. When purchased by Master Lock around 10 years ago the 5 pin cylinders used in the military locks were produced in China. That continued for a couple of years until the US could get ramped up to produce them. All other cylinders were produced in the US and still are. The military padlocks no longer use the 5 pin length cylinders and those cylinders are no longer available for American products.

I was the Key Records Manager for American Lock from the time they were purchased until I left the company one year ago this month. In that position in any lock manufacturing company it is part of the job to know every detail of cylinder production. So trust me when I tell you you are mistaken.

BBE, can you tell me where Master & American padlocks are made NOW?
Are they in full production here in the US again?

BBE, I never wanted to offend you and I am sorry if you were. I will open a new thread on that particular question about American Lock as it seems to catch some interest :)

American Lock components and Master lock commercial components are manufactured in Milwaukee, WI. They are then shipped to Nogales, Mexico where the keys are cut and they are assembled. Some retial Master products are made in China.
