    Default Yale combination safe

    Hi everyone been a while since i have posted on here . i purchased this yale combination safe today it is locked i just wofndered if anyone can give me any information on it , age etc if its a 3 or 4 wheel lock ? im in the uk if that makes a difference , thanks julian

    From the pictures, I would guess 1940s-1950s and most likely an OC5 lock, which to my knowledge was strictly 3 wheel. If the Yale medallion will pop off the dial, there may be a dial mounting screw underneath. And who knows what else!

    From the handle, I'd say it might have been made to mount in a larger safe or other limited space.

    Thanks Grayhair for the information , yes the yale cap unscrews but no screw behind it a brass pin holding the dial on , do you know if there was a factory setting number for these locks ?

    Does this safe have holes on the rear or bottom, which can be used to decode or deactivate the lock?

    just been looking at vids on you tube and even though it is a 3 wheel lock 4 numbers has been used ? why as i thought it would be L4 R3 L2 R-OPEN ? any help on this please ,,, 👍👍

    Don't know where you saw the four numbers for a three-wheel lock, but people may write down the number where it stops as a fourth number or dial the wrong direction, which makes an additional change of direction necessary.

    There probably was, but not that I can remember. The vagaries of age!

    yes on you tube jl locksmith , he has a yale lock set on a perspex base
