Default Most interesting or valuable item/s found in a locked safe or vault?!

Has anyone ever found anything more interesting than dead spiders and rust?

Had a safe given to me a little while ago as scrap. Thought I would do it up and give it a paint job. Pulled out the drawer at the bottom and out popped a 1 farthing piece. Won't get rich on it but was nice to find

Ah yes I remember hearing about that one!
How sick must the seller have felt about that?

I bought an old military record safe once and when I pulled the single drawer file cabinet out of the bottom of it there was a walking liberty half dollar behind the cabinet. Nice, but I've actually found more laying in the street.

Bought a safe from Greyhound and there was a couple of 10, 20 and 25 year service pins. I sold them off for a few bucks each.

Well no Jimmy Hoffa so far and no heads either. At this point I think I am up to about 8 times where sizable amounts of cash, pocket watches, etc. were found ranging from around 1,000 to something like 20-30,000, so I was told. I tend to excuse myself once the door is unlocked. Unfortunately these were all for other people. Other than that, the usual guns, drugs and pornography. Doug

    Default Safe find:

For years the most I found in any safe was 27 cents. A couple of months ago I was asked to open a safe that had been stored in a old store building owner purchased many years ago; safe had been locked since the mid 1960's. It contained rolls of old coins back to 1910, silver dollars, proof sets, etc.

I once arranged access at much inconvenience to a building in which was a floor safe that I had been given the key to. There was one penny in it.

In the early 1970s I knew a man who was a career criminal (he was no stranger to prison even then and subsequently served 15 years in Parkhurst.) At the time in question he specialised in burgling schools, this was in the days before alarm systems etc. were common. One day he removed a safe from the office of a local school, transported it back to his home and opened it with oxy-acetylene kit. Expecting to find the week`s dinner money for several hundred children he actually found two and a half pence and a bottle of port.... The school had banked the money a day early!

I have found a few hundred pounds and some gold in a locked safe that I bought off the dump for £1 -oh and the deeds to a house
    - unfortunately in the UK, owning the deeds to a house doesnt mean that you own the house.
