Default Mt. Holly, N.J. Prison Museum

While on a trip to N.J. recently I made a quick stop at the Mt. Holly Prison Museum to check out an unusual John Scott safe. Mt. Holly is just east of Philadelphia. Built around 1810, the huge front door lock and key were definitely "old school" in style.

It is odd that the larger lock appears to be upside down. (pic 2). Could have caused a security problem?

Yes, I was wondering about the upside down mounting. The key was about 6" long. Doug

    Thanks for the answer.
I have one lock that needs both hands on the key to turn the bolt.
Another key is 22 inches long with several levers.
It was used in prison to lock the first gate while standing outside the 2nd gate.
