Default Keeping In Touch With Modern Lock Technology

I just found this really great article by Han Fey about a new lock design using a stepper motor key driving disc tumblers. Not only is the lock interesting but the article goes into the design starting with original concept, loosely based on a 1868 Jos. L. Hall padlock patent design. Huh, I didn't know he even made a padlock. Lots of pictures. Almost makes me want to start paying more attention to the modern stuff out there. Google "RKL lock" which stands for "robotic key lock" and many things come up but I know the article can be found at StantonConcepts website, the designers of the lock. Doug

Stanton Concepts has come with quite a few innovations over the years. That particular lock has some amazing potentials as it can be put into the envelope usually thought of for a 3/4" diameter cam lock. I published an article by Robert Laughlin in my online Locksmith magazine Thelockman in 2005. It is very surprising that no major manufacturer has licensed it for production yet.

If anybody is interested, Security Snobs has cutaway cam locks and accessories of them. I read an article about he lock somewhere but I cannot recall where at just this moment. It really is quite an ingenious concept.
