    Default Cartwright safe plate.

Does anybody have any information about Matthew Mark? Were they a retailer? This plate is 4" across the bottom.

    Thanks,

    Magpie.

    Default Matthew Mark

MM were indeed a retailer of Safes.

Can I ask what part of the UK you got the plate from. That may give a generic area of location.

I would then scour City &/or regional Trade directories, & looking at the plate, 1880-1930 are the dates to target.

Once you get the hang, its a doddle & an insight as to how we sad bunch do research.

    Hi Russell,

Thanks very much for the info, especially about the Historical Directories site.
It is good to know that Matthew Mark were a retailer, as opposed to an end customer.
I bought the plate in the early 1990s in Lancashire, but I suppose it could have travelled since it was removed from the safe. I have done several Google searches so far, but not yet found anything. I will keep looking!

    Cheers,

    Karl.
