    Default Houdini Books

For those interested in Custodial items, escapeology and Houdini a number of books about or by Houdini have been posted in the HoL Marketplace.

Brian, I suppose there are good reasons why you have not merged the two forums? When I read your post I didn't get who or what HoL referred to as I keep forgetting that forum and its connection to this one. But the Houdini reference reminds me that Charles Courtney who authored a book (can't remember the name but good book) in the 1940's about his experiences as a locksmith and talks of his relationship with Houdini and how he would "fix" locks for Houdini, if I remember correctly. Doug, You are right, I agree Charles Courtneys book is a good read. Title is - Unlocking Adventure and was published in the UK by Robert Hale Ltd in 1951. Not sure who or when it was published in the USA though.

I have just finished reading "Safecracking" by Richard Byrne published in 1991
I have never read such a well researched and interesting book-although his conviction that combination locks can't be manipulated is a little wide of the mark. Nevertheless I learnt a lot.

I just looked at my copy and it has a 1942 copyright date and claims the publisher as Whittlesey House, New York and London. Under that it says Mcgraw Hill Book Company Inc.,Printed in USA.
