Default Cast iron safe with picture and story

Thought I'd post a picture of a cast iron safe I have at present.

The biggest one has a beautiful box ward lock and key. It is very heavy considering the back and the bottom are made from thin 1/8th inch plate. The front and sides and the door are cast iron.

The photo shows it upright - the way it was used when we obtained it. There are loops at each side which may have had a big - very big - handle or (I thought) a rope so it could be moved around by several people - two ordinary strong men couldn't lift it!

    Anyone have any information?

It came with an old French coin dated 18?? and a really amusing envelope squashed behind the internal drawer. It was an envelope dated 1946 with a lot of writing on the outside. It said, in the diatribe ...you will find ten shillings inside which will cover the postage. I looked into the envelope and there it was, a crisp ten bob note. Now worth more the the safe I sadly suspect.
