Default Newbie needs help / John Tanns ??

    Hi all

I recently came across a sign from a safe door and am interested to know its history.

The sign is oval in shape and has John Tann's at the top , with a banner across the middle with ' Reliance ' in it.

A banner across the bottom has ' 117 Newgate St , London ' in it and the sign also has a anchor on it , which has ' Est ' on one point and ' 1795 ' on the other.

If anyone has any information on this sign or John Tann's i would be most grateful.

    Thanks

    Caroline

If you have access to the safe it came off then it is possible to date it from the serial number of the safe. The plates are quite common as Tanns were a prolific maker and the plate you describe is a standard pattern. The only thing that might help a little is what type of plate , ie heavy cast or thin pressed metal ?
