Pushbutton door lock
I'm trying to locate information and possibly pictures for a door lock that was on the front door of my grandmothers home. The home is located in Elkhart, Indiana, just in case this lock was a reginal item.
The lock was a antique finish brass plate about 4" wide and about 12 to 14" in length, with door knob and two rows of 6 or 8 pearl inlaid pushbuttons, on the outside of the door. The plate on the indside had the knob and a small lever to lock and unlock the door from inside.
As I remember the lock required four of the buttons to be pushed in simultaniously to release the lock. Also the combination could be changed.
This required a sizable hole in the door frame to install do to the size of the mechanism.
My dad took it apart once to change the combination, when I was very young so I don't have a very clear memory on it.
Anyone who knows of this lock or has any information, I would appreciate it.
Thanks, John
