The protrusion on the bottom of the blade is reminiscent of the "security peak" found on today's Kaba Peaks and Best Peaks products although I suspect the purpose was to make the padlock key retaining. It would also make copying the key difficult without an adapter or special vise jaw in the duplicator. In those days (1960-1973) Eagle Lock was owned by Penn Akron Corp. of Woodside, NY. My two cents.
