Help in identifying key blank for small Eagle PTPK padlocks

I’m here again asking for help in identifying the key blanks needed for some small Eagle PTPK padlocks that I have plus some other information. I have two locks without keys and one with a key and also found a photo of a similar key on ebay. The key that I have inserts in all three of the locks that I have even though the keyways are a different size.

Smaller lock the plug is ~9mm diam and keyway ~5.62mm

Larger lock the plug is ~10mm diam and keyway ~7.3mm

Also can anyone elaborate on what the rectangular piece of brass insert above the plug on the larger lock is and how it works in the lock?

One is of the Larger Eagle lock keyway that I changed to B&W which shows better

I'm guessing the key shown may be Old Ilco 1013E, see thumbnail attached. Crosses to EA-9 Curtis, 5230 Eagle, 5232 Eagle, 165B Keil & E5230 Graham all of which are unfortunately l-o-n-g discontinued. As for the larger one, Eagle had numerous similar looking, but different "corrugated" type keys and the best course of action would be to find someone who has an assortment which you could try to see if you find one that fits; many of those are obsolete as well.

Too bad as Ilco or Yale company will not make those key like the good old day. It would be nice if Ilco could make all the original key blank for all the padlock in the past. Stop and think of how much extra money Ilco could make.....Timothy.....

Unfortunately the bean counters at Kaba Ilco, ASSA ABLOY/Yale and other manufacturers don't see it that way. Even now they are all continually discontinuing items that are slow sellers. Regrettably, unless they can move thousands of any SKU per year, they do not deem the item to be profitable. My two cents.

I can understand of what use saying but there are lot antique padlock with no key. this is why should have the original key come back....

That is not my opinion Timothy, I agree with you. Unfortunately, it is the position of most all the manufacturers, many of whom are now owned by large off-shore conglomerates whose primary concern is the bottom line.

Timothy I've thought about this on and off for a while as the obsolete blanks problems seem to crop up quite often.
Out of curiosity what blanks do the padlock collectors and enthusiasts need the most, and have you got any pictures of them or of the same profile cut keys that you could post?

I mainly use bit key blanks, and large sizes are not so commonly stocked. As well as some lever locks, they are also needed for warded door and safe locks.
Two particular blanks are Cotterill Climax, and Cotterill-Wilson blanks.

I have made Yale feather keys from flat steel blanks, no problem. But I don't know if Yale corrugated blanks are still available (not that I need any myself).

your larger eagle ptpk i might have blanks for it ? the eagle i have doesn't have the rectangle piece in the plug,the smaller one i doudt if any blanks i have would work because of the shoulder when pushed into the lock body. a couple of these blanks work on mine,but the top shoulder needs filed off. the one that might work only has the one shoulder

pete,your right on the smaller one is a 1013E the larger lock can use a 1014 with the top shoulder removed. not sure of the original blank # with only one shoulder.

If so, PM me and give details. I live in Toronto, Canada.
I am not in a position to make new keys for these locks yet as I'm only starting to get a handle on the technique of how to impression keys and I wouldn't want to ruin hard to come by key blanks.
I have read a lot and watched a number of videos but have only tried it a couple of times. I'm waiting for key blanks for a few Master Locks that I have and them will try on more advanced and more difficult locks.

I believe all the variations of Ilco 1014 have two shoulders. It is available in a longer 6-pin version, 1014A; and was also made in 7-pin, 1014AA; but that one is l-o-n-g obsolete.

That is a nice lock.
How long does it take you to make a key for it?
I have a number of the Yale Standard padlocks in various sizes, some open and some locked.
I am struggling to learn how to pick them. I have read the write up in Lauren's book and a couple of others on the internet but still can't open them. It sounds so easy when one reads a write up on the procedure.
I'm still in the early learning stages but the struggle is fun though discouraging at times.

some pick easier than others,but needto be picked for dissassembly, if you impression the blank then they do not hasve to come apart unless there is a problem. on this site i seem to recall a break down of the 853 standard. to me the gentleman did a very nice job and his details were great.
this 877 had no key and the locking spring is broken .

The laminated Master padlocks are not always easy. There are many experienced locksmiths who have trouble with them.

So BBE, which padlocks would you recommend that a person begin with when starting out to hone their skills in impressioning?

Any solid body, non-high security padlock should be fine. Just stay away from laminated locks that have a floating cylinder.

BBE was right about Master Padlock. Sometime it will work if can pick the lock open and feel the pin of which is longer pin or shorter pin to get the cut There also some American padlock are hard to do too......Timothy......

looking for other eagle padlocks with same keyway,only found one i had but it takes the 1014--ea1. it is not a push key ,plug sure looks the same as your keyway ? i have a few blank #s for eagle ,if you can look them up in a book and compare them with your keyway,PM me and i'll send it to you

Thanks Nathan for taking the extra time.
Looking at the keyway under magnification it looks more like 1013c.
The 1014 is 8.36mm wide and the keyway in my lock is ~7.3mm.
The key that I showed in my OP fits the top part of the keyway in the lock with the rectangular piece but does not reach the bottom of the keyway. It does fit the smaller lock.

Also as I asked in my OP can you tell me what the purpose is of the rectangular piece in the plug?

I received the keys this morning. Thanks again.
The 1013C fits keyway on the larger Eagle lock.
The other key fits another Eagle lock that I own and didn't have a key for. photo from eBay

As for my question "Also as I asked in my OP can you tell me what the purpose is of the rectangular piece in the plug?"
I found the following patent (983637 see attachment) that I am trying to understand which I hope gives me the answer.

Sorry I meant to say that the 1014 key fits another Eagle lock that I own and didn't have a key for. photo from eBay.

the other key is a 11625b or 11625bs ,ilco 1014dx,ea13. the 1013c will fit this padlock and probably others, if you try to impression a blank ,try the 1014dx first,i will send you more of them if you need them. the 1013c ,only have one left enjoy

2 inch eagle push key padlock i just recieved uses a 1014 or ea1,cut down shim and disassembled. sanded down flat wood for follower. after shimming the plug and spring come apart after removing plug top piece by gently prying up and push out with follower.

the plug has a pin holding the barrel on tthe shackle,i did not take it apart,lock is finished and works fine
