Guess can win it all as I do have some that don't have blind code. Yes hard to impression it those lock only if got lucky. What I did is pick the lock open and feel the pins of what is longer and shorter to give me some idea of what will look like to impression the key....Timothy....

Any fool would be stupid enough to take any Antique padlock apart. I have about 6 of those padlock that impression to working. key. Problem with most locksmith they can't be patient enough to impression any lock. It does take time to just to get working key. Like I said before if you can pick the lock to open look inside the keyway to see what the pins level are or use a pick to feel the pins of which is longer or shorter. Once you feel which pins is longer or shorter than try to impression as you will know which is longer or shorter on your blank key to file down one step at time....Timothy.....

Sorry forgot to add that there are time you may have to take it apart of if feel something not working right or the lock it all to rusty inside and out. I think I have two of them to take a apart because the pin spring was rusty and broken. Also the shackle was really bad rusty. I re-pinning the lock and clean up the shackle the lock working fine with working key...Timothy....

You have good point of not doing it but being patient of impression the key one step as time even it mean taken a whole month doing it. As you don't have to drill out the two pins. Go to This Forum "PADLOCK" to My Old Yale 853 padlock read what Femurat post but there are other way to do it to. Only if you have to.....Timothy.....
Definitely do not take it apart if possible
First of all, I've never seen a Yale with that logo before. Perhaps it is like the Yale USFS locks, where most or all take the same key? A lot of the old government and utility locks were like that.
The problem for some of us in a situation like this is that impressioning can be maddeningly difficult. Perhaps the lock can be picked and the pin depths read prior to impressioning. This is the only way I've ever had any luck with this method. I wouldn't take apart a rare lock unless I had no other choice, since disassembling to rekey will destroy the original finish. There's no way to avoid it when removing/replacing the pins that hold the lock together. If the lock is really rare or valuable, it might be better to leave it as is, even if no key can be made.
Sometimes driving out the pins from a common Yale 850 or 840 and rekeying it is the only way to obtain a working padlock. I've encountered several of these that were so full of dirt and corrosion that taking them apart was the only way to fix them. Even if the outside is in great shape, the inside can be a corroded mess.

Just as what Dean and Yale 7750 has said. It take time and would be a good idea not to take apart. I have this Yale padlock what I said last time just to post a picture to give idea of why I took it apart. It was very rusty and corrosion. After clean rust and corrosion off the shackle really look bad but should work for now and has a Yale key to re-pinning the lock. Put all together the lock work just fine. Hope you let us know how your plan work to get working key for your padlock.

Sorry to heard the padlock giving you hard time. You need to walk away from the padlock give some rest on it. Just maybe the padlock set as Master key. Have you try to pick the lock..??...Here how I do to most of the padlock that I can't impression. I pick the lock open and hold on the tension tool to open. Than find some kind of drill bit or anything that will fit in the shackle hole This way the lock will not close. Now all you have to do look into the keyway to see pins. I use a flat steel into the keyway or feeler tip pick to feel each pins to find the longer pin Than take curve pick to find the smaller pins.....Timothy.....
Timothy has a good point--you can pick and then read the pins to cut a key.
I just realized this thread was back--I wouldn't think of taking that lock apart--but I've done what Timothy described with many old brass padlocks that I didn't want to ruin.
If you can't impression it blindly (In my case I wouldn't bother, never could get the hang of it), pick the lock open and read the tumblers. You'll immediately get a picture of what the finished key should look like in terms of depths, which should help to greatly reduce the number of blanks used up during attempts at cutting a working key.

Just keep this in mind that it may be hard to pick but again just need to be patient to do it. It may have set up as master key just take the time doing it. I know because sometime I'll pick the lock and will not open. Just it aside for a week and try again and next time you get the lock open. Let us know how will doing.....Timothy.....
