Today I received a used Abus 83/45 with three keys (6 pins). The "pocket" for the cylinder is now about .01" (.25 mm) bigger, and KIK cylinders actually fit as advertised. Problem solved. There...

the first combination lock I came across when starting out, was given a cloth bank cash bag full of SAM parts and told, see if you can get that back together
Thanks Huw for the comments. It’s possible that the inscription “Mappin’s Patent” on the top cap was no longer included when the name was changed to F.Whitfield & Co. by 1875. I cannot recall...
