Purpose of this site.
The purpose of this site is to share knowledge, ideas and examples of locks, keys and related collectables.
There are collectors in the world that hoard their collections like misers with massive amounts of material and documentation which never sees the light of day. I find that approach to be very sad indeed. I know that the very best way of finding new locks and new collectors is to place as wide a range and as much information as possible on show in a public venue. Hence the reason I created and run this site.
So please if you have locks that you have questions about (I cannot guarantee you will receive an answer ;-)) or if you have locks you could show and write about I would urge you to register and join the the site - membership is free (although donations towards the costs are welcome) and help spread the word and share the knowledge with others.

I agree, additionally good discussion in the threads greatly adds to our understanding. It was disappointing that the thread ‘Unusual Chubb (Is it a Chubb) Safe Lock’ didn’t take off. It may be that nothing is known by other members. But surely the enquiring minds of both ‘the locksmith’ and the ‘lock historian’ could have made additional useful contributions. The lock historian might have asked about and shown and discussed variations of the detail for comparison. The Locksmith surely would want to know about detents and the associated problems. Maybe some feel that these topics shouldn’t be discussed openly. For my own part the collection has many, many locks that could be explored and would be appreciated even more by a fuller exploration and understanding of every detail.

It is frustrating when a thread goes unanswered and it may well be as you suggest - that there is currently no further information known by the members of the site. And to be frank this is very likely going to be the case for lots of the questions asked. But - once the post is made it's on the record and it will be indexed and there for the future so there is always a chance that it may be answered in the future.
