Some ins and outs of a Dovetail Claw Bolt safe
I have a collection of about 30 safes. Three of these safes have the dovetail claw bolts. I like these safes the most in my collection.
All the three dovetail claw bolt safes I have, work with another principle.
The safe here is the oldest one. It has 2 handles. Later they realised that more handles means more holes through the door and more holes in the door makes the safe more vulnerable for attacks with explosives.
Clever thing is that the vertical movement of the bolts work like a scale. If the bolts one side go up, they go down the other side. This way the lockingmechanism works very light and smoothly.
The newest one (produced around 1926) has only one rotating wheel in front of the safe. The dovetail claws also fully retract in this model.
