He must've got really sick of 'us'. Several messages went back and forth between me and the seller.
I was accused of entrapment (how I can entrap when I am saying from the start that his item is fake is beyond me.)
I was accused of being part of a conspiracy of people who "want the lock so badly" (not sure how one would come to that conclusion!)
I was accused of harrassment, interfering and bullying - all I did was reply to each of his replies, addressing each 'pont' they made. The closest I came to being rude was asking them to consult a dictionary.
I was accused of slander.
I was sarcastically accused of being Altruisic, but no other explanation for my motives, when I pointed out I have nothing to gain, was forthcoming.
Then I was told that "I am the mindreader", and that they do not claim to know my motive.... bit confusing.
They stopped replying when I asked him :
Do you still really believe the lock is real?
Or do you believe that a number of people, with nothing to gain, who are scattered across the globe are all 'conspiring' to tell you that it is a fake for some reason?
Hmm..difficult choice.
If you still have the dictionary handy, look up Ockams Razor"
By not pasting the whole tirade of several messages, I know I leave myseslf open to claims of distorting the nature of the communication, but in the interests of bandwidth, and the fact that it must be abundantly clear what this seller is about, I will refrain from posting it all.

PS *broken record* I do personally believe their listed IWC watch is also fake.

Clarification - when I said that I was accused of entrapment, and accussed of being part of a conspiracy of people who 'want the lock so badly", I would like to make it clear that at no point did I say that I, or any other entity would want to buy the lock.

Thanks guys, you all are making my day:wink: This is the most fun I've had in a long time. Lets just hope there isn't some dumb sucker out there willing to fork over $10,000 for that piece of junk. I really would like to think that anyone with that kind of money who would be into collecting civil war relics would want either some kind of official documentation or proof of its authenticity. Mark

Here let me write that for you.... (tap..tap... tap..) I would want it documented from a recognized source. I would think that like us we have documentation that we can look at and find out if something is real. Heck there are collectors that spend years looking for clues on a battle and documents about that one battle.

They have added this to the bottom of the item description :
** We are not experts, nor do we want you to think we are. These items are listed to the best of our knowledge and we cannot be held responsible for any mistakes in our listings. If you have any questions please ask us before you place your bid.
And then about 12 hours after adding that, they closed the auction :!::-P:!:

12 hrs before ending the auction, they also added :
One of our local lock experts / collectors (who is a third-generation locksmith) was very impressed and authenticated this lock as a genuine antique.

Oh well. I'm going to put this thread to bed I think. We all know what it is, the seller is fool and his 'expert' knows nothing so what more can one say ?
