Prison (?) lock and some padlocks from my collection
Hi all,
Just wanted to show some of the padlocks I picked up over the course of two years as well as something that looks like a prison lock. It was VERY rusty -- I had to bathe it in rust - removing solution for a day to get the stuff off.
I know, it's nothing much, but I would be interested in people's opinion on the padlocks especially. Any doubts about any of them as far as authenticity? I had some doubts about the Soo line one, but really do not know enough to give a verdict...
Rather then posting pictures here, I'll give you the link to my Picasa album:

And as long as I'm at it -- here's the link to my safes collection. I've posted some of the pictures before:

Thanks!
Vlad

While it can be time consuming I would urge you to upload your pictures here also as they then become available in a context where they maybe accessed readily.
It would also allow them to be seen by those who could answer your question, I find many users are reluctant to follow external links and then come back.

Re: Prison (?) lock and some padlocks from my collection
Some 1st thoughts :
The top lock, is a german rimlock. Probably from a storeroom or similar. Very hard to date as the same designs were made over a wide timespan.
The bottom padlock in the 1st post is Indian in origin and just a secure design with a closed shackle.
The Jared lock is a Chinese fantasy item (being a close copy of a squire 660 padlock)

Thanks a lot for your comments. I knew that Jared lock was fake, nice to have it confirmed. Fortunately, I paid just a couple of bucks for it on a flee market. Anything else looks not genuine?
Thanks again.

Re: Prison (?) lock and some padlocks from my collection
I don't think any others are repro's. I do have some info on the iron and brass push pin tumbler Yale. If the reverse of that lock has the same Yale logo it indicates that it was made after 1928 and I believe they were made until the late 1950's or early 1960's. If the logo is the older Trefoil logo the lock was made prior to 1928 but I don't know when they were first made.
BBE.

Thank you for this info. The lock is the older one, with the old logo on the back side.
Thanks again.

Re: Prison (?) lock and some padlocks from my collection
Hello,
Some info on the handcuffs you've got:
These are Peerless model #2 first version. That would date them between 1925 & 1932.
PS. Regarding the SOO-line padlock (and most RR padlocks of this design), I would be more skeptical of the KEY(S) rather than the lock itself. I've lost count of how many RR keys I came across that were made from genuine old RR switch keys that were re-marked to match the padlock the seller was hawking, thus allowing them to command a higher price than if they were sold individually. BE CAREFUL OUT THERE!
Hope this is of some assistance, --Vince
