    Default Info on Slaymaker and Edwards Locks

    I found the Edwards lock wrapped in a ball of twine about 20 years ago and was wondering if anyone knew any info about it. Has EDWARDS and 6LEVER on one side and Sept 28.15 Made in USA on other (I'm assuming date of manufacture). No plans to sell it but also wondered what it was worth. I also have a SLAYMAKER with 12 above the name with just SLAYMAKER on the opposite side. Any info on them would be greatly appreciated (would like to tell the kids about them when I pass them on).

    I know Slaymaker made quite a few locks. I don't know Edwards that well so I can't say much there. Please post a picture so we can give you better information.

    Did end up finding some info on the Edwards. One sold on an auction site for $35 a while back and was made in 1907 but no information beyond that. Havent had much luck with the Slaymaster though. Is the Edwards a "Railroad Lock" and if so, can you explain to this layman what constitutes the label "Railroad Lock"?

    There are two thoughts on RR locks. One is a type use by the RR and the other is the ones that are MARKED by the RR. The second is the one that I think makes the grade to be a RR lock. So if the lock was marked BNRR or something like that it would be a RR lock. There are fakes in this type of lock in that someone marks it with some RR marking.

    There is a member here who is a descendent of O.M.Edwards who founded the company. They sold locks under three different names through the years;

    The O.M. Edwards Lock Co.
    Edwards
    OMECO

    There is a thread here that has a lot of information on the Edwards company, sorry I forget what it is named or where.

    Run a search on "Edwards" and you will find several topics on that subject.

    There are also threads with information on the Slaymaker Lock co. They also sold under many different names.

    Slaymaker
    Slaymaker Barry
    Fraim Slaymaker

    They are actually still available today but are no longer produced in the US.
