Victory USA padlock...help would be great
Hello everyone!
I was interested in this lock and would like to know who made it, where it was made, and an estimate of what its worth. Any other details would also be appreciated!
Thanks,
Nixsmith

Your lock more than likely was made by the Fraim-Slaymaker Hdw Co., judging by the shape and the rivets. It was probably made between 1921-1930 in Lancaster Penn. It's what's known as a warded lock probably made to celebrate the end of WWI. Several diferent lock companies have made Victory padlocks in all different designs and shapes. Value on yours even with a working key is still only around $20-$30. Still a nice lock to have in any collection, thanks for sharing it with us. Mark

Wow that really is amazing to be able to just look at something and know about it like that. Thanks for the info. I only paid $3 so I am pretty excited that it is worth what I felt it was worth.
Thanks again,
Nick

Nick, I must confess it takes more than just looking. I've been collecting locks for 30+ yrs and I read up on locks and makers. The "Padlock Collector" by Franklin M Arnall is one reference I use and "Early Locks and Lockmakers of America" by Thomas F. Hennessy is another. Both are exellent books and must haves for any serious padlock collector. There are also many other books out there as well as clubs such as ALCA (American Lock Collectors Assn) & WCLCA (West Coast Lock Collectors Assn) as well as THIS Great web site that OLDLOCK has so graciously sponsored. Welcome to the Hobby! Mark

Thanks for the advice and reading materials. I know a little about a lot of things. I think it stems from my grandpa's current museum-like collection of neat things but heavy in mail memorabilia. I am like him in that no one thing can hold my interest consistently so I bounce from collection to collection looking for something that interests me. The one great thing on my side is the internet. I can just punch in a sentence and a world of knowledge is available and I can be instantly connected to collectors like you. Also I am currently putting up another lock I need some information on and if you could be of some assistance that would be great.
Thanks again,
Nixsmith
