Default Antique Lock from Central America

I recently purchased this from Craigslist. Can anyone give me information on this? All I know is the guy said it was from Equador. The lock is 14" high X 14" wide at the top, and the key is 8" long. It works fine.
    Thanks

Can you post a pic with it in the open position?

At first blush I will go with a gate lock being it is as big as it is.

Does that little arm come off? I see that it moves down the shaft. If it does I will stick with the gate lock useage.

It is a nice lock. Hand made from the look of the markings.

    Default lock

    Dean,
The arm does come off. Any idea of its value, and do you know where I can find more info on it? I think I have looked every where online.
    Thanks

It's going to be worth whatever you paid, after all locks (or anything else) are only worth what people are prepared to pay and that is especially true of locks of ' primitive ' design that are almost impossible to date as they have been made to the same designs by the same methods for many years.

This is different to modern padlocks and patent lock designs which have in many cases an established sales history and market base that can be used to gauge pricing with reasonable accuracy.

As to more information, I doubt you will find much (if any). But now the lock is here it's going to find it's way into the search engine indexes and it's possible that more information will surface in the future.
