Cotterills Lock Sentinel
This is a product born of the era in which it was made, it would not have been required before the spread of the railways as it was aimed primarily at the travelling salesman, who as he travelled from town to town would stay in boarding houses and inns, which had insecure locks which offered little protection for his property while he was on calls.
The purpose of this handsome lock, which came housed in a custom made carrying case was to improve the security of any room, and it works in a very simple manner.
The lock is based on a high security 8 slide Cotterill locking mechanism which controls an adjustable catch, which can be set to suit the required thickness of almost any door.
So, to secure the room the owner would lock the existing lock with it's key and then lock-off all access to the keyhole with the Lock Sentinel.
Each lock came with two beautifully polished keys, each of which had a sheath to protect the cuts form dirt and damage.
A number of these locks are known, however this is a very clean example complete with the case which is in very fine condition.----
Oldlock.
